DigiTech Specialty Pedal Index
Home > DigiTech Specialty Pedal Index
Some DigiTech pedals fit neatly into a clearly named series. Others were built around an idea so distinctive that the product stood largely on its own. DigiTech had a category for those pedals: Specialty.
In its 2009 product catalog, DigiTech used the Specialty heading for four of its most distinctive pedal concepts: the TimeBender, Whammy, JamMan, and HarmonyMan. They did not share the same enclosure, effect type, or model-number sequence. What brought them together was their ability to do something unusual enough to earn a place outside the company's standard stompbox lines.
The lineup shifted as the products evolved. By the 2010 catalog, the original JamMan listing had given way to the JamMan Stereo and JamMan Solo, while the HarmonyMan, TimeBender, and Whammy remained part of the Specialty section. That changing lineup tells us something important: Specialty was a product category, not a conventional series built around one chassis or numbering system.
This section of AmericasPedals.net is here to document those products using DigiTech's own historical classification. The HarmonyMan and TimeBender will receive individual model pages. Because JamMan and Whammy grew into substantial product families of their own, each will eventually lead to a separate family index while remaining part of the Specialty story.
What made these pedals Specialty products?
- One-of-a-kind functions: Each product was built around capabilities that went well beyond the ordinary single-effect stompbox.
- Technology with a musical purpose: Intelligent harmony generation, programmable looping, expressive pitch shifting, and rhythm-based delay functions gave players tools that had previously required more complicated equipment.
- Products that could stand on their own: HarmonyMan and TimeBender did not need a matching line of related pedals to explain what they were. Their identities came from what they could do.
- Ideas that grew into families: JamMan and Whammy became much larger stories, eventually expanding into multiple generations and configurations.

Collector notes:
- The category matters: These products are sometimes grouped today only by what they do. Period DigiTech catalogs show that the company deliberately brought them together under the Specialty heading.
- Specialty was never one fixed lineup: The products shown in the category changed as new models appeared and older versions were replaced. That is why catalog year and product configuration both matter when documenting them.
- Original power supplies deserve attention: Several of these pedals have power requirements that differ from an ordinary compact 9-volt stompbox. The correct original adapter can be an important part of a complete example and a practical necessity for safe operation.
- Boxes and paperwork help tell the story: Packaging, manuals, catalogs, and promotional materials can show how DigiTech positioned a product when it was new, especially when the pedal did not belong to a more familiar series.
Why this section belongs on AmericasPedals.net
The Specialty category captures an important side of DigiTech: the willingness to build a pedal around a new idea even when that idea did not fit an established format. The HarmonyMan could create intelligent multi-part guitar harmonies. The TimeBender could learn rhythmic patterns from the player. JamMan helped turn looping into a practical pedalboard tool, while Whammy changed the way generations of guitarists approached pitch shifting.
These products may not look like a matched family sitting next to one another, but DigiTech's catalogs show the connection. Together, they represent some of the company's most ambitious attempts to put powerful digital processing directly under a player's feet.
As new information and documentation are uncovered, this section will continue to be updated. Additional products may be added when period catalogs or other reliable documentation show that they belong in the Specialty story.
